Have you ever though of a world without music?

It would be boring and very dull. It is for a fact that, music provides a backdrop to our lives.

From the video games that we are involved in, movies that we watch, adverts on television to the clubs we spend time in, music has proved to be quite imperative.

In the Brits awards held at the Faculty of Music at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, to celebrate all that the music industry in has achieved, Harman pointed out that he was looking forward to working with people from the music industry to come up with ways that will help nurture it, in a mission intended to make sure that in some few years, Britain will have success stories that they can pride themselves giving.

Harriet Harman who is the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, also went a mile ahead to point out that, its no brainer that the current economies need jobs as well as growth. Given that the music industry is one of the fastest in growth, it would be the best industry to create jobs from. It should hence be treated fairly by the treasury teams of any given government. Adding that access to finance is one of the most challenging issues in the industry, the government should make sure that the creative industries are recognized by giving them enough funding as it is one of the most significant investments in the near future.

The banks too should make a point of lending money to feasible music businesses. He pointed out that in every music album that is sold today, one is always form an artist in the United Kingdom. This goes a long way to show that, music is one of the greatest assets that the United Kingdom owns. The government should therefore respect and support the industry as one of its crucial exports. Lastly, he demanded for actions that were tough to anyone who is allegedly charged in music piracy.

Those Darlins, are a group of four that has its roots back in Tennessee. The group is said to have started out with three young women. They had their first debut album that was self titled back in 2009. They namely were  Jessi, Nikki and Kelley who back then went by the stage name Darlin. The first album that appeared fantastic consisted a mixture of country plus superb rock and roll with mad energy coupled with humor’s best dose. The debut was indeed a hell of a lot of fun!

Screws Get Loose” which is the title of their second album however, brushed aside the harsh sounding mixes that flocked the first album. This second album is characterised by a taste of punked garage sound thats more Brooklyn than their Tennessee roots.

The “Screws Get Loose” is meant to go far past their usual country sensibility scaling back a little of the yuks. It is set to be near the perfect mashup rockabilly alongside country blend that gets better with each song.  The trio of girls, alongside their male drummer form the quartet, thats out to show the music industry that they had made the right decision when they opted for their new found sound.

Their first hit, “Be Your Bro” is a fun redefined tune that tackles the possibility of friendship with boys not getting to the extreme sexual level. The third song, witnesses the drummer, whose also the only boy member, Linwood Regensburg, tryout his first attempt in leading vocal. This justifies that the trio are in   full  control of both their image and unique sound.

Those Darlins are indeed capable of delivering something worthwhile with whatever dimension they decide to take. Everything from the album poster, thats done right, to the reverb production that evidently outshines the previous album. Their tough group sound that depicts that of snarling rock  combined with their swag that gets even better with the change of each of their individual masterpieces. Their first release was sloppy, which makes perfect sense of the fact that the band would want to expand their sound to something more established with much more rectified accuracy.

CBGB which is popularly known as the birthplace of punk rock, is at its last hours. The iconic place is being dismantled to pieces by a team of 10 construction workers. The reassembly should be some time and place in the future that no one knows exactly when. It was one of the most revered landmark for rock music. It is a club that hosted hundreds of fans, music and not to forget booze and any other substance that you can imagine. This was the case every single night from the day it first opened in December of 1973 until 15th October when its swan-song show was held.

The club has been there for an age, this can be attested to by the smell that is witnessed at its demolition! The club had a historic plywood stage where Blondie, The Ramones, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, The Pixies, the Police, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth and many other thousands of artists have performed.

Everything is being removed from the once iconic club starting with the stage. Next is the loft that held the lighting board, the neon beer advertisements, the graffiti and sticker coated wall panels, the urinals from men’s restroom, everything. They are all being wrapped in a plastic and loaded in trailers, where they will sit in New Haven, Connecticut, until the day Hilly Kristal who is the only proprietor that the club has ever had decides where he will try to recreate the CBGB.

Hilly is thinking of opening a brand new CBGB in Las Vegas since New York is becoming somewhat inhospitable for those artists who can play in such a club. The club will be located along Fremont Street which is downtown and not on the glitzy hedonistic strip. He wants to recreate the club not exactly as it was but something that will preserve certain elements of CBGB.

The music industry has seen massive changes in the recent years, unlike before when the industry was ultimately under the control of the record label companies, today the industry is open to almost everyone.

Previously, any music businesses including the determining of who would become who in the sector, the creation and signing of contracts and even fixing of record prices was all done by the record label companies. Today, it is very easy for anyone to get into the industry, get his/her own contracts, set own rules pertaining to the music to be produced and even produce the music alone and even fix its prices.

If you are going to compare the old music biz with the new music biz, you will also want to look into the aspect of track/record selling. The use of the internet has enhanced piracy and as such has lead to high levels of music theft and pirating. There are no longer music consumers willing to pay more for original tracks or records while there are easy ways of getting them especially through downloading. The effect of this in the industry is that, artists can no longer rely on their tracks/records sales to make a living. For those music artists who entirely rely on their music to make a living, their incomes majorly come from promotions and concerts.

Entrepreneurial artists are also beginning to impact on the industry meaning that success in this industry no longer depends on record labels. With the use of different social media like twitter, Facebook and others, artists today are able to strategize their marketing for distribution of records and subsequently making themselves popular. With the social sites, it is also possible for artists to create communities for their fans, which can be used to evaluate the audience outreach and general reception.
